It was quite good read…。 Had a good time
Becca,
Read this with my 12- & 11-year-old boys and we all loved it。
Karen,
I liked this so much more than I thought I would! The writing style is beautiful, and although "ghost stories" are not normally something I go for, this one was charming。 I liked this so much more than I thought I would! When his family are murdered, a toddler makes his way to a graveyard, and grows up there, looked after by ghosts。 I enjoyed the beginning of the book, but then there seemed to several stand alone stories about the ‘creatures’ who inhabited the graveyard and their particular characteristics。 The reason for telling us about these becomes clear towards the end of the book but at the time I found them a bit tedious。I enjoyed reading about Bod and his friend Scarlett。 I liked the range of vocabulary When his family are murdered, a toddler makes his way to a graveyard, and grows up there, looked after by ghosts。 I enjoyed the beginning of the book, but then there seemed to several stand alone stories about the ‘creatures’ who inhabited the graveyard and their particular characteristics。 The reason for telling us about these becomes clear towards the end of the book but at the time I found them a bit tedious。I enjoyed reading about Bod and his friend Scarlett。 I liked the range of vocabulary used in the story which would be good from a teaching point of view but could put off some less able readers。 。。。more

A little boy with a curseThis book starts with a whole family being killed except a baby boy that got away and lived most of his life in a graveyard。 It reminds me a lot Harry Potter, but full of love。 Bod was protected by a group of ghosts that loved him to death😊。 Is a middle grade book and I really enjoyed it。 It never felt like a kids book, the only difference was that the dangerous and scary scenes were tone down。 The ending is very sad, but I think that he will be able to go back。 That's i A little boy with a curseThis book starts with a whole family being killed except a baby boy that got away and lived most of his life in a graveyard。 It reminds me a lot Harry Potter, but full of love。 Bod was protected by a group of ghosts that loved him to death😊。 Is a middle grade book and I really enjoyed it。 It never felt like a kids book, the only difference was that the dangerous and scary scenes were tone down。 The ending is very sad, but I think that he will be able to go back。 That's if this book is turned into a series。 (I don't know if it is)。 。。。more

A perfect combination of mystery, creepy and ludic metaphor for all ages, especially older children。
Colleen,
A rather traditional story。 Child loses parents, goes through hardships, learns and grows。 Imaginative touches from Neil Gaiman,I’m sure many kids could relate to the revenge on the bullies section。 Fun overall, felt like I needed a sequel at the end
Sophia,
So awesome

Very charming fall read! The writing is beautiful, and the story is whimsical and sweet。 I LOVE the concept of the graveyard in this book。 Neil Gaiman ran with the concept of an ancient graveyard and made the ghosts from all different eras。 The way the ghosts speak reflects this, too, which was a lot of fun。 The story is mostly well done, but I got the sense that the story was leading to a deep and meaningful climax。 When I got there, it felt a little rushed and more surface level than I expecte Very charming fall read! I need them to adapt this。 。。。more

5 StarsSo, given my history with books written solely by Neil Gaiman, I was not expecting to love this as much as I did。 While Stardust disappointed me and Coraline was cool but lacking in emotional impact, The Graveyard Book gave me almost everything I wanted in a children's novel。 It fitted so much in its mere 300 pages, it felt like a much longer book (in a good way!)。 There was humour, a fun and creative plot which tied up in a most satisfying way, a big twist I didn't see coming and, most i 5 StarsSo, given my history with books written solely by Neil Gaiman, I was not expecting to love this as much as I did。 While Stardust disappointed me and Coraline was cool but lacking in emotional impact, The Graveyard Book gave me almost everything I wanted in a children's novel。 It fitted so much in its mere 300 pages, it felt like a much longer book (in a good way!)。 There was humour, a fun and creative plot which tied up in a most satisfying way, a big twist I didn't see coming and, most importantly, the story had so much heart。 I very nearly cried at the end。It wasn't a 100% perfect book, or a new fave, but it was sure as hell awesome enough for the 5*, so here we are。 。。。more

This is my first Neil Gaiman read。 It was an enjoyable one。 I didn't feel as engaged in the first few chapters, but as the story progressed I eventually started to enjoy it more。 I like how it was a combination of fantasy, suspense, action, coming-of-age, tragedy, and inspiration。 It's a book for children, but it offered a lot of entertainment and wisdom for adults。 This is my first Neil Gaiman read。 It was an enjoyable one。 I didn't feel as engaged in the first few chapters, but as the story progressed I eventually started to enjoy it more。 I like how it was a combination of fantasy, suspense, action, coming-of-age, tragedy, and inspiration。 It's a book for children, but it offered a lot of entertainment and wisdom for adults。 。。。more
Caitlin Whetten,
A little creepy, a little whimsical and a little cute。 I love the premise and liked the beginning and the ending。 Lost a bit of interest in the middle, but I absolutely adore almost anything Neil Gaiman writes。 I listened to the full cast audio of this and I think I actually might prefer the Gaiman-narrated audiobook more。 This loses a bit of that magic when he doesn't read it to you。 A little creepy, a little whimsical and a little cute。 I love the premise and liked the beginning and the ending。 Lost a bit of interest in the middle, but I absolutely adore almost anything Neil Gaiman writes。 I listened to the full cast audio of this and I think I actually might prefer the Gaiman-narrated audiobook more。 This loses a bit of that magic when he doesn't read it to you。 。。。more
Macy Davis,
Read for CHL 414 - Science Fiction and Fantasy。I read this book in middle school but had honestly forgotten most of what it was about。 It took me awhile to get into, but once I was into it I finished it pretty quickly。 I cried while reading the last chapter on the train which, to me, is the mark of a pretty good book。

A cozy sort of Halloween book
Kieran,
Lovely riff on Kipling’s The Jungle Book, although a good deal spookier, quirkier, and more charming (what else would you expect from Mr。 Gaiman?)。 I found the vignettes more compelling than the overarching plot, but this is a great October read overall。
Brandy Bell,
3。5 stars。 Technically it's a great book, it just didn't grab me。 Plot was all well and good, and I even enjoyed it in principle。 I was hoping to be swept away in a spellbound autumn way, but alas, I wasn't! 3。5 stars。 Technically it's a great book, it just didn't grab me。 Plot was all well and good, and I even enjoyed it in principle。 I was hoping to be swept away in a spellbound autumn way, but alas, I wasn't! 。。。more

I’m just sitting on my bed and I cannot process how this book just made me cry and reminisce about my entire childhood。 Neil Gaiman you!!!!!This is a coming of age story that reminded me of what it felt like to be at that point in life where I felt like I was all grown up and ready to go out into the world and find my own adventure and make my own mistakes。 It reminded me of that bittersweet feeling of saying goodbye to my childhood memories and leaving the comfort of my home and my family。This I’m just sitting on my bed and I cannot process how this book just made me cry and reminisce about my entire childhood。 Neil Gaiman you!!!!!This is a coming of age story that reminded me of what it felt like to be at that point in life where I felt like I was all grown up and ready to go out into the world and find my own adventure and make my own mistakes。 It reminded me of that bittersweet feeling of saying goodbye to my childhood memories and leaving the comfort of my home and my family。This isn’t a children’s book!!! This book was so sweet 😭。 I loved this story and Neil Gaiman did such an great job telling it。 What a creative story… the ending was pretty emotional I almost cried lol。 I felt pretty frustrated as I was nearing the end of the book because it seemed like throughout the whole story (but especially at the end) everyone was so secretive about Bod’s family, his future, the graveyard secrets, and many other things。 It was all too mysterious and kind of unfair。 Once I finished I felt like it was a swe This book was so sweet 😭。 I loved this story and Neil Gaiman did such an great job telling it。 What a creative story… the ending was pretty emotional I almost cried lol。 I felt pretty frustrated as I was nearing the end of the book because it seemed like throughout the whole story (but especially at the end) everyone was so secretive about Bod’s family, his future, the graveyard secrets, and many other things。 It was all too mysterious and kind of unfair。 Once I finished I felt like it was a sweet ending that let the readers in on some info but still left it with a satisfying yet still mysterious ending。 4。5 stars :) 。。。more

A fun October read。 I really dig Neil Gaiman… and while I didn’t love this more than Ocean at the End of the Lane… I did really enjoy it
